Digital 'livingroom' commenting on the influence of Dutch intellectuals on the rise of political populism in the Netherlands. For sure, once upon a time Holland was renowned for its stand on Human Rights, tolerance and other basic requirements of the Enlightenment. Today a strong Counter-Enlightenment movement, philosophically for the most part Herderian, Hegelian and Heideggerian in origin, is responsible for the closing of the Dutch mind. Looking inward and backward, intellectuals constructed a nationalistic euphoria in the hearts and minds of the populace, all in the name of 'cultural affiliances', against 'enemies' which seem to originate outside national borders (Globalization, Islam) and for a renewed 'sense of belonging.' Although most of the articles are in Dutch, translation is on the way.
